QNAP NAS supports Fibre Channel SAN
A reliable, scalable and budget-friendly SAN storage solution
By installing a Fibre Channel card in your QNAP NAS, you can easily add the NAS to an existing SAN environment at an affordable price point.
Common Fibre Channel SAN (Storage Area Networks) are closed network environments, and their devices are often expensive while lacking deployment flexibility. QNAP NAS adds support for Fibre Channel. By using a QNAP NAS with Fibre Channel connectivity, your NAS can be easily added to your existing SAN environment at an affordable price point. This allows you to leverage the many benefits from QNAP NAS including snapshot protection, SSD cache acceleration and more.
Transform your SAN environment with a budget-friendly solution
Replacing Fibre Channel SAN environments can be expensive and time consuming. But when using a Fibre-Channel-ready QNAP NAS, your existing SAN environment can gain a budget-friendly storage or backup solution. Not only is a QNAP NAS more affordable than typical SAN devices, but it also provides rich enterprise features to make storage applications more efficient. For example, you can use LUN snapshots to enhance data protection and disaster recovery planning.
Set up a Fibre Channel connection with the iSCSI & Fibre Channel app
You can easily add your NAS to a SAN environment. Once a QNAP Fibre Channel card (QXP-32G2FC or QXP-16G2FC) has been installed in the QNAP NAS, you can set a Fibre Channel Target using the iSCSI & Fibre Channel app. In addition, the LUN Masking and Port Binding features provide an additional layer of security for your data.

Build an affordable FC SAN
QNAP NAS supports a wide range of Fibre Channel (FC) HBA. By installing FC cards in the NAS in target mode, you can use the NAS as a SAN storage device. The Marvell® QLogic and ATTO® Celerity™ FC cards can also be used in Windows, Linux and VMware hosts in initiator mode for you to easily connect to QNAP NAS FC storage target to backup/access your data.

Note:
- QNAP NAS system requirement: QTS 4.4.1 (or later), QuTS hero h4.5.0 (or later), or QES 2.2.0 (or later).
- QES NAS only supports QNAP Fibre Channel cards and allows for setting Fibre Channel target using the Storage Manager app.
- QTS 5.0 (or later) and QuTS hero h5.0 (or later) NAS do not support ATTO FC card.
- The performance of QNAP NAS with FC card may vary due to the NAS performance, host performance, and the number of hosts, HDDs and SSDs used.
- Fibre channel technology is backward-compatible with two previous generations of FC cards.
- QNAP strongly recommends using FC cards and FC transceivers with matching native speeds. Contact your vendor for compatible transceiver modules.
